MCI Group of Companies began in 2007 as a recruitment business in Singapore. It now provides recruitment, outsourcing, HR, immigration, events, IT, aviation manpower and training services.
How the group began.
MCI Career Services opened in 2007 with six consultants, placing job seekers with employers in Singapore. The team now has more than 100 recruiters.
The group grew in response to requests from clients. Employers hiring staff from overseas needed work passes and payroll managed for those staff, so MCI began to provide those services. Clients that used MCI to fill roles asked it to run entire functions on their behalf. The events that MCI staffed for clients developed into a separate production business.

The founder.
Mr. Ong Boon Huat
In 1995, Mr. Ong Boon Huat was 29 and working as a sales executive at a multinational manufacturer. When he returned from two weeks of medical leave, he found that his major accounts had been reassigned to colleagues.
He decided to work for himself rather than risk losing accounts in that way again, and founded his first company, Sogo. He went on to start ventures in other fields, then returned to recruitment and opened MCI Career Services in 2007.
Like Sogo, the name MCI is an acronym. It originally stood for Making Companies Interesting and now stands for Making Careers Impactful, which applies the same idea to the candidate rather than the client.
Mr. Ong regards the group's staff as central to the business. Experienced employees are expected to train new hires personally rather than refer them to a manual. The group also pays overseas expenses and provides extended holiday leave, because he would rather employees see more of the world than remain at one desk.
He also supports giving ex-offenders a second chance at employment. MCI has been exploring a partnership with Yellow Ribbon Singapore to help ex-offenders return to work, and he has said he wants the effort to have “a lasting impact on those seeking to rebuild their lives and careers”.

Recruitment, outsourcing, payroll, work passes and immigration are all provided within the group. For contract and outsourced staff, MCI Outsourcing acts as the employer of record, holding their contracts, payroll, CPF contributions and work passes on the client's behalf.

MCI Career Services (06C2859) and MCI Consulting (13C6730) are employment agencies licensed by the Ministry of Manpower. Contracts, work passes and statutory obligations are managed in line with MOM regulations and TAFEP guidelines.

Specialist sectors have their own companies in the group: MCI Aviation Manpower for aviation staff, MCI IT Solutions for technology professionals and MCI Events & Productions for event crews.
